Balanced Living & Productivity Expert Susan Sly Publishes 1st in 2-Part Article Series Sharing the Importance of Protecting Yourself Online in Terms of Productivity

Best-selling author, time management expert, work life balance specialist and professional speaker Susan Sly publishes the first leg of a two-part article series outlining how our productivity is impacted by cyber threats and how to protect yourself.

Scottsdale, AZ — March 2, 2017 — Best-selling author, work life balance speaker and expert, and entrepreneur Susan Sly recently published part 1 in her protecting yourself online series titled, “Why You Should Protect Yourself Online – Guard Your Productivity with these Cyber Safeguards Part 1.

As Susan says, “The internet is amazing—when it’s amazing. It can also be scary, frightening, and downright dangerous. Today, more than ever, making sure to protect yourself online is a vital part of productivity. Fixing the mess that can happen when you are careless with data – or even not diligent with guarding your data – can waste tons of valuable time and energy.”

First, Susan covers what information needs to be considered if you are looking to protect yourself online.

The primary big area, of course, is financial data protection. Susan says one thing most people know to watch but often ignore or overlook, is ensuring credit card data is only entered on secure websites.

Yet, she cautions, even when secure sites are used, continue to keep an eye on statements to look for any fraudulent activity since even sites with the strongest security sometimes get compromised. When this happens, she states, “Productivity is out the window as you spend hours upon hours, jumping through hoops to remedy the situation.”

Susan also covers the risks of data compromises on social media. No doubt, we understand this to a certain extent already. However, she brings up some lesser-known points and considerations that are crucial to productivity—and the safety of ourselves and our loved ones.

For example, she talks about how Facebook often inadvertently allows you to broadcast the answer to that common security question, “What’s your mother’s maiden name?” If our family connections are public (and most of the time we have our settings that way) and our mother is still in our lives and connected on Facebook, that information is out there for everyone and anyone to see.

Furthermore, tweeting or otherwise sharing your location via social media can alert would-be thieves when you are away from home and your valuables are unattended. Additionally, you may even be sharing your exact address via the EXIF data on photos posted online. This is something very few people – except those you don’t want to have this information – realize.

In this section of the series, Susan also shares how abductors or potential molesters have used social media to learn the school children attend or when they are walking home / are at home alone. She also lets us know that In some instances, school seen on shirts or jacket, has been background research for “catfishing” kids into becoming friends – or even intimate online – with fake persons they believe to be someone else they know or are associated with at school or socially.
