Balanced Living & Productivity Expert Susan Sly Publishes 1st of 2-Part Article Series on Decision Fatigue and Its Impact on Productivity

Best-selling author, time management expert, work life balance specialist and professional speaker Susan Sly releases a new article outlining decision fatigue and how it can be a major deterrent to productivity.

Scottsdale, AZ — April 10, 2017 — Best-selling author, work life balance speaker and expert, and entrepreneur Susan Sly recently published a new article titled, “Decision Fatigue: How Late Nights and Decision After Decision Become Major Productivity Killers.”

Decision fatigue is not a new idea despite the fact it’s flown under the radar in terms of visibility and awareness. By definition, Susan explains, making decision after decision is likely detrimental to our overall decision-making ability.

Of course, Susan says, we often don’t recognize this is happening. We think we’re doing awesome, killing it even—kicking butt and taking names.

Yet, she explains, “Whether you realize it or not, the human brain – your brain – has limits. One brain-related mental trait is called, “Executive Function.” When you focus on a task for an extended period or just make a simple decision, you are exercising this aspect of your brain. Imagine how many times that happens in a day?!”

Susan extrapolates on this information, adding, “Unfortunately, recent science has proven that this reservoir of Executive Function in your brain is not unlimited. The more you use it or tap into it, the more it is depleted for the next wave—even if the tasks or decisions are seemingly unrelated.”

Consequently, this is likely harmful to productivity long-term. Productivity is reliant on our ability to make good decisions and have stable relationships and communication. Therefore, if our decision-making ability is going downhill, our productivity is likely going downhill with it.

Yet, there are answers and Susan promises to provide some of those answers in the next part of the series.
