Balanced Living & Productivity Expert Susan Sly Shares Her Thoughts on Homework and Balance For Kids

Best-selling author, time management expert, and work life balance specialist, speaker, and performance coach Susan Sly shares new article about another mom who told her daughter’s school she would be doing no more homework.

Scottsdale, AZ. — May 18, 2017— Best-selling author, speaker, and entrepreneur Susan Sly recently published a new article, “Work-Life Balance for Kids: No More Homework?! Why One Mom Says Her Kids Won’t Be Doing It Anymore.”

The article Susan penned centers around a Facebook post that recently went viral. In the post, a mom was sharing with those on her friend’s list, how she had emailed her daughter’s school to let them know she would be doing no more homework. The daughter was only ten and had been experiencing physical signs of increasing stress, such as chest pains. She was also starting to dread school.

All this, Susan elaborated, from a young girl previously reading above her grade level, finishing many chapter books, in her free time. A young girl who also took coding and art classes on her own.

Thus, it was not that this woman’s daughter was lazy. It was simply that she was beginning to experience the symptoms of burnout at a critically young age.

At first, Susan shares, a lot of people scoffed at the mom’s post before reading the full story. How dare she tell her daughter’s school what her daughter was and was not going to do? Yet, as they kept reading, it made much more sense.

As Susan says, what this woman had realized was that her daughter’s life was out of balance. For adults, we say they have a problem with work-life balance. Yet, for kids, says Susan, “Generally, we say nothing at all.”

Yet, she counters, “Most likely, our silence, however, isn’t an intentional desire to ignore the problem. Rather, we don’t realize there is a problem at all. Yet, work-life balance for kids – or school-life balance – has become an issue.”
