Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Cederna, Reveals Causes and Corrections for Male Breast Enlargement.

Accomplished Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Cederna, Partner at The Plastic Surgery Center acknowledges the confidence boosting effects of male breast reduction surgery to correct Gynecomastia.

Portland, ME, November 13 , 2014: Partner at The Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Cederna posted a new blog on the Dr. Verne website entitled, “Male Breast Enlargement, Gynecomastia, Addressed at Plastic Surgery Center.” A condition that affects a large number of pubescent boys, Gynecomastia takes its toll on a boy or man’s confidence.

According to Dr. Cederna, “This condition is an endocrine disorder, which typically develops during puberty. It is not unusual for upwards of 70% of boys to have some gynecomastia development during puberty.” Most cases self correct, as Cederna says, “Fortunately, roughly 75% of those cases resolve within two years of onset as testosterone production naturally increases. And with normal muscular development the chest takes on the desired masculine look.”

In the small percentage of cases that do not resolve naturally, Dr. Cederna says there may be medical conditions such as endocrine disorders, some cancers or Klinefelter syndrome. Cederna states, “These medical conditions may be managed short-term with medications. However, after a two-year period the medications are no longer effective. This is when it becomes appropriate to seek a qualified plastic surgeon.”

Puberty is not the only time men experience breast enlargement. It is often seen in older men, Cederna says “as testosterone production declines.”

“Breast reduction surgery is the only way to effectively correct Gynecomastia”, says Cederna. “Removal of fatty tissue, glandular tissue and excess skin is most often required. Sometime it is also necessary to reduce the areola.” The surgeon will then sculpt and “redefine the chest for a firm, flat appearance” states Cederna, which he says, “restores a man’s confidence immediately.” According to Cederna male breast reduction surgery can be done on a male of any age beyond puberty.
