John Cimino was born and raised in upstate New York to immigrant parents from Italy.  He worked his way through college and graduate school while attending The University at Albany, New York, (B.S. 1974; M.S. 1976) and law school (J.D. 1979).  Mr. Cimino was a senior editor on the Law Review at Gonzaga University School of Law.  He later attended the University of   Denver Graduate Tax Program, where he obtained his Masters of Taxation Law (LLM) in 1982.  After earning his LLM, he worked as a tax attorney for the Big 8 accounting firm of Touche Ross where he defended taxpayers.  Although he is licensed in New York, Washington and Colorado, he has primarily practiced law in Colorado since the early 1980s.  He served as a chapter 7 trustee for the District of Colorado, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, from 1989 until 2001.  As a trustee and consumer debtor’s counsel, he has reviewed and administered thousands of cases.  In one case, he recovered close to $4,000,000 from a business debtor who was attempting to hide assets in multiple family trusts – a record recovery that still stands today.
