David Auer, Founder and CEO of Auer Tax Group Kicks Off Tax Season With A Sound Strategy and Game Plan

Founder and CEO of Auer Tax Group, author and Premier Tax Expert, David Auer, explains the need for a well designed game plan when going up against the IRS, illustrating that need with an example provided by a recent tax battle between Oakland Raiders owner and the IRS.

Tulsa, OK – March 15, 2016 – David Auer, recognized Premier Tax Expert and Founder/CEO of Auer Tax Group posted a new blog on the company website entitled, In Taxes as in Football, Offense Sells, But Defense Wins” in which Mr. Auer elaborates on the unnecessary losses that occur without a well-executed defense.

David-Auer1Auer writes, “With Super Bowl 50 and football season behind us, it’s time to get a little tax lesson from the game.” He continues adding, “Anyone who knows football understands that while offense may sell tickets, defense is what wins championships. So let’s apply that strategy to taxes, because there’s one player that every NFL player fears more than a strip-sacking linebacker and that’s the IRS.”

According to Auer, “The NFL minimum salary is $450,000 this year. That’s enough to push even the greenest rookie into the top 39.6% federal income tax bracket. Pile on 3.8% for Medicare, plus state and local taxes, plus whatever state and local “jock taxes” he owes for road games, and it all adds up to a serious financial concussion.”

Auer states, “When troubles with the taxman come up you need a well-planned defense. For example, let’s look at a story coming to us out of the same northern California bay area that just hosted the big game.” Auer elaborates by relating a recent case between Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis and the IRS over income from 1988-1994, which Davis ultimately lost.  However, according to Auer,

“It could have gone down differently. Davis could have challenged the accuracy of the IRS calculations, filed an administrative claim for a refund, or sought reimbursement for the IRS’s breach. “Instead, he threw a Hail Mary and sought a full refund. That pass falls incomplete,” said the judge.”
