Founder and CEO of Auer Tax Group, author and Premier Tax Expert, David Auer, reminds readers that the IRS is not the only taxing entity, pointing out  that state and local governments have the ability to tax, as he focuses on Philadelphia’s incoming Mayor who  is proposing a tax on sodas and sugary drinks.

Tulsa, OK – July 15, 2016 – David Auer, recognized Premier Tax Expert and Founder/CEO of Auer Tax Group posted a new article on the company website entitled “”Philly May Be Taking the Fun Out of The Fizz with a New Tax.” Mr. Auer understands how destructive the power to tax can be on taxpayers, which seems to be the purpose of his latest article.

Auer writes, “Since the IRS is the focal point of most tax topics, it often comes as a bit of a harsh reminder when we hear about new taxes being imposed at the state and local level.” He continues,”And, now that the Federal Tax season is behind us, Philadelphia’s incoming Mayor, Jim Kenney is proposing a new tax that’s going to take the fun out of a lot of people’s favorite thirst quenchers.”

According to Auer, “Kenney’s inaugural budget would impose a three-cents per ounce tax on soda, juices, iced tea, and other sugary drinks to be levied against soda distributors.” He says, “The mayor claims the measure would raise $400 million over the next five years. The issue has even bubbled up into the presidential race — Hillary Clinton supports the tax, while her challenger Bernie Sanders condemns it as disproportionately harmful to the city’s poor.”

Apparently this is the third try for Philadelphia. Auer states, “Philadelphia’s Kenney is hoping the third time will hit the sweet spot. But this time,” says Auer, “he’s coming at it from a different direction. He’s not positioning it as a public health measure or using it to fight obesity or diabetes. He’s just looking to reinvest the profits into the communities where the biggest customers live.”
