Dental Marketing Expert, Dr. Darold Opp, Advises Appropriate Use of Hashtags to Help Dental Practice

Dr. Darold Opp, founder of Advanced Family Dentistry and “SmilePalooza” says there is an appropriate use of hashtags for engaging in social media with patients and there is an inappropriate use that can be harmful instead of helpful.

ABERDEEN, SD – October 22, 2015 – Dr. Darold Opp, DDS, founder of Advanced Family Dentistry and SmilePalooza, recently posted a blog on his website entitled #Hashtags Can Help or Hurt Your Dental Practice. While some portion of the population may be unaware of the original meaning of the hashtag, Dr. Opp reminds his readers that, “It used to be known as a ‘number sign’ but in today’s digital social society it’s called a ‘hashtag’.”

Hashtags are everywhere, starting with big name brands like Nike (#Nike) and popular television series such as Netflix’s Orange is The New Black (#OITNB).”

Opp contends that, “If your dental practice is on social media (and it should be), it isn’t always easy to find appropriate ways to connect with patients.” He continues adding, “It is important to learn how to use and leverage the tools that can help stay in touch with your patients. Hashtags can be helpful, however, they must be used appropriately or they could end up hurting more than helping.”
