ATLANTA, GA, February 28, 2019: Founder and Owner of Oculus Plastic Surgery and Specialty Surgery Center, Harvey “Chip” Cole, III, MD, FACS posted a new article on the Oculus website entitled, “Kybella Or Neck Lift, That Is The Question,” in which Dr. Cole clarifies the purpose of each.

“If you are wondering about the difference between Kybella and a neck lift,” says Dr. Cole, “let me stop you right there. First of all, let’s be very clear — each procedure addresses a different concern. It’s true that sometimes both procedures are performed at the same time.”

Dr. Cole states, “A neck lift is pretty self-descriptive. It does just that, lifts the skin of the neck.”

According to Dr. Cole, “Kybella works wonders if you are just concerned about eliminating a double chin. In fact, that is what Kybella was FDA approved to do.” He elaborates, “Kybella is a drug which is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a chemical that is naturally produced by the body. The way it works when injected under the chin is to destroy fat cells by breaking down the cell membrane. After treatment, the fat is eliminated through the natural metabolic process.”

“So,” suggest Dr. Cole, “the first thing to do if you are thinking about both procedures is to be very specific in determining your cosmetic objective. And set up a consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon experienced in both procedures.”

Dr. Cole explains, “A lot of people are searching for ways to eliminate a double chin. According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, nearly 68% of all Americans have issues with double chins.” He continues adding, “There are several causes that can result in a double chin. They can develop due to weight gain, genetic factors and age. A double chin is the result of a thick layer of subcutaneous fat the rests behind the chin. Unfortunately, double chins can be resistant to weight loss, so exercise and dieting may shrink your waistline but not your double chin.”
