Milwaukee Area Dentist Tony Cigno Publishes 2nd in Educational New Article Series with the A to Z’s of Dental Care

Milwaukee area dentist Dr. Tony Cigno gives a great overview of some common dental terms in second leg of two-part series on dental care A-Z.

Greenfield, WI — March 6, 2016 — Wisconsin Dentist Tony Cigno recently published an article titled, “Our 2017 A-Z List of Some Popular Dental Terms from Milwaukee Area Dentist Dr. Tony Cigno Part 2.

Dr. Tony CignoIn this article, the second of a two-part series, Dr. Cigno goes through letters L-Z. Interestingly, this section covered some terms that are not as common in those found in the first part, A-K.

For the letter “L” for example, he covered Lumineers—a more modern version of the porcelain veneer. We learn from Dr. Cigno that Lumineers are much thinner than traditional veneers, almost like a contact lens for the teeth. Consequently, there is much less prep work required for the teeth.

Specifically, Lumineers require very minimal filing and grinding. This lowers the chance of future complications and also means that Lumineers can usually be put on in a single office appointment.

In discussing the letter “M”, Dr. Cigno explains what a malocclusion is and treatment. While the term sounds moderately frightening, it simply refers to a misaligned bite due to crooked teeth or improper alignment of the jaw. Most malocclusions are fixed with braces.

Skipping to the letter “S”, Dr. Cigno explains sedation dentistry. This is a great, relatively-new, “fear-free, pain free” concept of dentistry for those previously fearful of dental visits. Practitioners of sedation dentistry sometimes provide medical relaxation options for dental work. These can include medications taken before procedures at home or nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) administered at the appointment but before work is done. Sedation dentistry has made proper dental care (including prevention) possible for those who have been avoiding the dentist due to fear or phobia.
In the remainder of the article, Dr. Cigno explains what obscure terms like UCR and xerostomia are just in case your Milwaukee area dentist throws those at you and you have no idea what they mean.
