Milwaukee Area Dentist Tony Cigno Publishes New Article with Information on What to Do When a Tooth is Knocked Out

Milwaukee area dentist Dr. Tony Cigno explains the proper emergency protocol following a knocked out tooth.

Greenfield, WI — December 1, 2017 — Wisconsin Dentist Tony Cigno recently published an article titled, “Emergency Dental Treatment for a Knocked-Out Tooth? What to Do… What to Expect.”

Dr. Tony CignoDr. Cigno begins the article with the startling fact that 5 million teeth are knocked out every single year. He explains that while it’s not necessarily easy to knock out a tooth, it’s not hard either.

The good news, he adds however, is that a knocked-out tooth isn’t necessarily lost for good if you know what to do.

The technical term for a knocked-out tooth states Dr. Cigno is a tooth that has been “avulsed.” He elaborates, “When this happens, the nerves and blood vessels are damaged too. As such, all avulsed teeth will (at least eventually) need a root canal—whether your tooth can be saved or a implant is required.”

He goes on to share how with your own tooth, if it can be saved, the bone can possibly re-attach to the root. Although, this possibility, he notes, is more common with children but is not impossible in adult cases either. On the other hand, only permanent tooth should generally be implanted.

In the remainder of the article, Dr. Cigno shares what you need to know or do to save a tooth that’s been knocked out. Key, of course, he stresses, is that you need to get to the dentist as quickly as possible. Ideally, within thirty minutes. Thus, acting fast is critical and that is what makes the information the remainder of the article provides so critical.
