Motivational Speaker Expert Sandy Olson Shares Insights Into The Common Traits Of Inspiring Leaders.

Sandy Olson, Speaker and Owner of Pathway to Success, a motivational company talks about the qualities and traits that make leaders great.

Frederick, MD – February 10, 2018 – Sandy Olson, owner and speaker with Pathway to Success, a motivation company, recently published an article on her website titled “What Makes A Leader Great.” Ms. Olson shares, “I recently watched a TED Talk by leadership expert, Simon Sinek, talking about the attributes that make leaders great.” She suggests that, “Maybe you’ve seen it. If you have, I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s the fifth most watched TED talk.” https://www.ted.com/talks/simon_sinek_why_good_leaders_make_you_feel_safe

According to Olson, “Sinek relates leadership to parenthood. He asks the audience if they would ‘lay off’ one of their children if the family was facing hard times.” She continues adding, “Of course, no parent would consider such a thing. The family would cut back and do things differently instead of getting rid of one of their children.”

“As I further researched Sinek and his ideas about leadership,” says Olson, “I found myself agreeing more and more with his premise, which is that real leaders create the feeling of safety.” She continues to elaborate, “He goes further saying that trust is the most important ingredient in feeling safe. Sinek posits that “Leaders make the people they are in charge of feel safe.” He adds, “When employees are given opportunities to improve their performances through education and encouragement instead of being fired as the go-to solution for all problems, trust naturally grows.”

Olson asks, “How can this idea of making employees feel safe help you in your own business? Do you as the leader of your company or team inspire trust?” She gives another example from Sinek’s talk in which he related that a certain company “lost $10 million dollars when they lost their largest client. At the end of the day the company leaders met to discuss layoffs. However, the owner of the company would not allow it. He came up with another solution. Everyone, from the CEO to the janitor, would be required to take 4 weeks of unpaid vacation. The owner said that instead of a few people suffering a lot, everyone will suffer a little. The company saved $20 million and company morale soared.”
