Naples, FL, September 30, 2019: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new blog on his website entitled, “Something To Chew On Requires Something To Chew With.”  Dr. Hernandez delves into how oral health is an indicator of other diseases and how some dentists are helping their patients avoid serious health conditions.

Dr. Nilo HernandezDr. Hernandez writes, “Teeth and good oral hygiene are more integral to overall health than most people know.” He continues adding, “We smile easily and eat effortlessly when teeth are healthy and bright. However, if for some reason oral health deteriorates, if not attended to swiftly, the loss of teeth may make it difficult to chew and impossible to smile without embarrassment.” He emphasizes, “In addition, poor oral health is an indicator of other more serious underlying health problems”.

According to Dr. Hernandez, “One important thing most people don’t yet know is that the mouth is where most systemic diseases make their first appearance.” He elaborates, “According to the Academy of General Dentistry, more than 90% of all systemic diseases produce oral signs and symptoms. In fact, the accuracy of saliva testing is gaining ground. In the future, saliva testing may replace blood testing as a means of diagnosing and monitoring diseases such as diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, cirrhosis of the liver, heart disease, HIV and many other infectious diseases.”
