Nilo A. Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, Owner of Smilecreator Of Naples Writes About Taste Buds, Teeth And Their Role In The Ability To Chew, Smile And Speak Properly.

Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the Smilecreator of Naples, talks about dentists as the architects of the mouth.

Dr. Nilo Hernandez Naples, FL, July 25, 2019: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new article on his website entitled, Better Use Premium Fuel Or Else…,” in which Dr. Hernandez covers a range of topics including food, taste buds and the common neglect of oral health until it’s too late.

Dr. Hernandez states, “Fuel in the body is an interesting topic.” He elaborates, “For one, we humans really enjoy eating. We also assume that we must eat…and we are right for the most part. Food is fuel. What we put into our bodies is very important.”

As Dr. Hernandez points out, “Our mouths are full of taste buds (glands) and they detect the tastes that we like and dislike. As humans, we want more of the tastes that we like.” He emphasizes, “That is true for everything we do.”

“Besides being a source of pleasure, taste buds also act as a warning system,” says Dr. Hernandez, adding, “They alert us to the flavor profile, the intensity of the spices or flavor, and whether we feel the food needs something or not. As we age, these taste buds will lose some of their intrinsic function as other organs and systems in the body do that same.”

Dr. Hernandez poses the all-important question, “How do the teeth come into this picture and what role do they play in the taste of foods?” He continues adding, “I am asked this by many patients when we are discussing replacing their missing of failed teeth. We must assess our teeth and function similarly to an architect designing a structure.”

According to Dr. Hernandez, “One would not build a single-family home the same way one would build a multi-floor commercial building.” He states, “Same holds true for the mouth. As a dentist, one of the most difficult situations we encounter is achieving the patient’s expectations.”
