Personal Injury Attorney, Eva Brindisi Pearlman, Reveals A Deadly Mix on New York State Waterways.

Utica, NY, August 11, 2015: Personal Injury attorney, Eva Brindisi Pearlman, partner at the Law Offices of Brindisi, Murad, Brindisi & Pearlman, has posted a new blog on the law offices website entitled “Alcohol, Drugs and Boating, A Potentially Deadly Mixture.Oil and water do not mix. Neither do alcohol and water as Ms. Brindisi Pearlman points out in her recent blog.

Eva PearlmanPearlman writes, “New Yorkers love the water. They love to be on the water in our many beautiful lakes, rivers and seaside communities. They love to be on paddleboards and jet skis and in kayaks, canoes, sailboats and motorboats. They love to be in the water too whether swimming, diving, water skiing and more. Unfortunately, some of the fun water activities too often come with risk because of those irresponsible people drinking alcoholic beverages and using drugs while boating.”

Pearlman cites the most recent statistics from the New York State 2014 Recreational Boating Report, which states that, “Alcohol and drug use are a significant cause of fatal boating accidents in New York. Between 2005 and 2014 alcohol and drug use was found to be a primary contributing factor in 52 fatalities (24%) of all boating deaths. In 2014 alcohol or drugs are known to have been present in 11 of the 27 fatalities (41%). These substances can impair both judgment and reaction time.”

As Pearlman points out, “It is against the law to drive a boat anywhere in New York while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you are found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while operating a boat you will be subject to heaving fines, possibly imprisonment as well as the suspension of operator privileges.”

Pearlman urges safety saying, “While on the water, please exercise precaution. Stay up to date on New York State Boating laws. Be aware of other boats, especially kayaks and canoes, and be alert for jet and water skiers and those being pulled in tubes. Obey the speed limits. Watch for shallow water. And do not drink while boating.”
