Personal Injury Attorney, Jeffrey T. Jones Cautions Drivers To Stay Alert In Road Construction Zones.

Charleston, WV, April 29, 2015: Personal Injury attorney Jeffrey T. Jones, founder of the Law Offices of Jeffrey T. Jones, and best-selling author of “Protect and Defend” has posted a new article on his website entitled “Spring Brings Road Construction and Construction Zone Accidents and Injuries to West Virginia.” While an annoyance to many drivers, road construction speed limits and zones are set up for safety.

Attorney Jones writes, “As the weather improves throughout West Virginia we begin to see road construction crews springing up to repair and improve our roadways.” He goes on to add, “Unfortunately, construction slows driving speed and causes anxiety and frustration to those drivers who are in a hurry.”

Even though precautions are taken and safety processes are put in place, accidents do happen. As Jones points out, “The sad fact is that each year hundreds of road construction workers are injured or die while working on our roads and highways. And, 25% of those road construction workers are killed by passing cars and trucks, according to a recent study by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.”

According to Jones, “Many conditions contribute to accidents in road construction zones.” He points out the most common causes, citing among others, distracted drivers and hazards created by detours.

Despite the strict regulations that apply to highway and road construction, Jones says, “When serious and/or fatal accidents occur in a road construction zone, the causes may be difficult to determine. Who is at fault can be very complicated.” With so many entities involved, Jones points out, “A personal injury attorney is typically called upon to determine how and where things went wrong, and more importantly who is liable. In many cases, when it is clearly not the motorist at fault the liability may be shared by several parties.”
Jones advises, “When driving through road construction and you are delayed and required to slow down, this is not the time to text or make a phone call. Road construction zones are complicated. This is the time to pay full attention to the road and to be aware of the workers that are present and any trucks slowing down to enter a work zone or enter the road from a work zone.”
