Jones, and best-selling author of “Protect and Defend” has posted a new article on his website entitled “Make Safety a Priority and Make Halloween Spooktacularly Fun!” With excitement running high and kids running from door to door, it’s easy to lose sight of safety as Jones points out in his latest article.

Jones writes, “Halloween is one of the most exciting times for children of all ages. What’s not to love? Kids get dressed up in fun costumes and go knocking on doors to get candy and all sorts of treats.” He continues adding, “Unfortunately, despite a litany of precautions, each year children are still injured or killed.”

“On this night,” says Jones, “the two greatest causes of injuries and deaths are falls and being hit by a vehicle.” He offers statistics, “According to Safe Kids Worldwide, children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a vehicle and killed, on Halloween, than on any other day of the year. And, children are four times more likely to fall on this night. Reports indicate the lack of adult supervision is what puts children in harms way.”

Offering a list of tips for making sure costumes are safe, Jones then moves on to other precautions including teaching children not to eat any of their treats before they get home. Jones writes, “As exciting as it is to get candy and treats, you want to be able to inspect your children’s treats before they eat anything. Make sure your child has had a good healthy meal before heading out to trick-or-treat. Set the ground rules. Explain the reasons for not eating while they are out.”
