Tax Advisor Barry G. Fowler Addresses Requiring Minimum Standards for Tax Preparers

Barry G. Fowler, EA, leading expert in tax resolution issues and CEO of Taxation Solutions comments on a statement made by Ron Wyden, D-Ore, about the perceived lack of requirements for tax preparers versus those required to be a barber that allegedly lead to identity theft and tax fraud.

Houston, TX – May 23, 2016 – Barry G. Fowler, CEO of Taxation Solutions, posted a new article on his website entitled Is Your Barber More Trustworthy Than Your Tax Preparer? Mr. Fowler, inspired by a statement by Senator Wyden makes it clear that honesty and integrity cannot be regulated into a person’s character.

barry-fowlerFowler writes, “Let me just begin by saying that I have great respect for barbers in general and mine in particular. I also have great respect for honest, ethical tax preparers.” He continues adding, “So, this is in no way a slight to members of either profession.” Fowler further elaborates, “However, with tax fraud and identity theft at epidemic proportions emerging out of every sector of the industry and beyond, from individual preparers to international cyber criminals, it is a topic that is of great concern for those of us in the industry as well as the Government and the IRS. It should be a concern for every taxpayer too.”

As Fowler states, “Clearly, there are already “minimum standards” in place for tax preparers. The real issue is one of honesty and integrity, qualities that no amount of education or training can guarantee.”

“Maybe,” writes Fowler, “the minimum standard for tax preparers should be raised. But on the other hand,” he adds, “it just might be that barbers in general are simply by nature more trustworthy, and less inclined to be criminals. Unless of course you consider The Barber of Seville!”
