Tax Advisor Barry G. Fowler, EA, Reminds Taxpayers to Stay Alert to Tax Scams

Barry G. Fowler, EA, leading expert in tax resolution issues and CEO of Taxation Solutions reviews the top 4 scams that according to the IRS will be the most prevalent in 2016 while reminding readers to be vigilant even though the tax season is officially over.

Houston, TX – May 16, 2016 – Barry G. Fowler, CEO of Taxation Solutions, posted a new blog on the company website entitled “Stay Vigilant to Tax Scams Even Though Tax Season Has Ended.”  Even though, as Mr. Fowler allows that, “Those who have filed their taxes without an extension can now officially breathe a sigh of relief,” letting one’s guard down regarding tax scams is not a good idea.

barry-fowlerFowler writes, “Around this time each year, the IRS publishes a list of the 12 most active tax scams. This year’s list which I found on The Motley Fool website, entitled The IRS Dirty Dozen List of Tax Scams for 2016 includes the usual attempts such as overinflated expenses, offshore tax avoidance, fake charities and the like.” He continues adding, “However, the top 4 spots go to some of the newer, most heinous and virulent scams which has cost taxpayers and the IRS literally billions of dollars in the last few years.  I’ve included the top 4 to remind taxpayers that just because tax season is over, the scams do not end.”

According to Fowler, the IRS anticipates that identity theft will be the “most noteworthy scam of 2016.”
