Tax Resolution Attorney, Jeffrey T. Jones Highlights A Few New and Favorable 2014 Tax Breaks

Tax resolution attorney Jeffrey T. Jones, founder of the Law Offices of Jeffrey T. Jones, and best-selling author of “Protect and Defend” suggests keeping attention on the good news in the tax law during the holiday season, even though it may not be widely applicable.

Charleston, WV, December 11, 2014: Tax resolution specialist attorney Jeffrey T. Jones, founder of the Law Offices of Jeffrey T. Jones, and best-selling author of “Protect and Defend has posted a new blog on his website entitled “Let’s Focus on Some Favorable Tax Breaks Available This Year.”  Even though the tax breaks Jones points out are not widely available, he would rather keep his readers focused on the spirit of the holiday season.

Jones says, “ For the moment, let’s focus on a couple of tax breaks, that while not applicable to everyone, at least herald a bit of good news for some taxpayers as we make every effort to stay in the celebratory holiday spirit.”  He finds himself in agreement with a professor at Hollins University in Roanoke, Va., Kari Munro, who was interviewed for an article by reporter, Chris Krissell of bankrate.com.

Jones quotes Ms. Munro who, as he writes, “likes a new tax rule that favors small business and home based entrepreneurs.  As Jones writes, according to Munro, ““Under the new rule, you can bypass detailed expense records and simply deduct $5 for every square foot of home office space used, up to a maximum of 300 square feet, or $1,500. The simplified expense is recorded on Schedule C rather than Form 8829, and allows you to separately deduct mortgage interest and real estate taxes on Schedule A.”  Jones adds, “This is going to be a welcome change to many taxpayers.”

A list of several overlooked tax deductions makes Jones’s blog a real keeper. Jones shares, “If you were looking for a position in the same line of work as your current or most recent job, you can deduct job-hunting costs as miscellaneous expenses if you itemize.” That will be helpful to lots of people. In addition he points out, “Folks who continue to run their own businesses after qualifying for Medicare can deduct the premiums they pay for Medicare Part B and Medicare Part D, plus the cost of supplemental Medicare (medigap) policies or the cost of a Medicare Advantage plan.”  Jones makes tax season something to look forward to.
