Jones, and best-selling author of “Protect and Defend” offers tax saving planning strategies that can be helpful despite the fact that congress has not yet decided whether to extend provisions that were in effect for previous years.
Charleston, WV, December 8, 2015: Tax resolution specialist attorney Jeffrey T. Jones, founder of the Law Offices of Jeffrey T. Jones, and best-selling author of “Protect and Defend” has posted a new article on his website entitled “Plan Now To Save This Coming Tax Season.” 2015 Tax Season may throw some interesting challenges to tax payers and preparers alike according to Mr. Jones’s current article.
Jones writes, “While it may not be quite as easy to prepare for tax time this year with any real sense of accuracy as it has been in the past, nonetheless, it’s time to do as much as possible to save on taxes now.” He continues adding, “The reason for the possible challenge is that Congress has yet to act on several important provisions that expired at the end of 2014.”
According to Jones, “the individual tax breaks that expired at the end of 2014 and have yet to be extended include, the option to deduct state and local sales and use taxes instead of state and local income taxes, the above-the-line deduction for qualified higher education expenses, tax-free IRA distributions for charitable purposes by those age 70-1/2 or older and the exclusion for up-to-$2 million of mortgage debt forgiveness on a principal residence.”
Jones provides a detailed list of 7 actions that individuals might be able to take depending on their circumstances. Many of the provisions, while temporary, had been continuously extended for years.
