The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Founder, Victoria L Collier, Talks About Stimulus Payments Deposited Into The Accounts Of Deceased Taxpayers.

Estate & Asset Protection Attorney, Victoria Collier acknowledges that those who receive stimulus deposits or checks addressed to deceased loved ones know the right thing to do is to return the money.

DECATUR, GA, May 14, 2020: Victoria L. Collier, founder of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new blog on her law firm’s website entitled “Return To Sender, in which Ms. Collier acknowledges that the stimulus payments were not meant for the deceased.

Victoria CollierCollier writes, “Shortly after the CARES Act stimulus payments started showing up in bank accounts, I started getting calls from my clients with an unusual question. It was about deposits made into the accounts of deceased loved ones. And the question was, “What should I do?””

“Yes, it’s true,” Collier acknowledges, adding, “The stimulus payments have been going to many people who are now deceased.” She continues, “Some people are annoyed and feel like they should be able to keep the money, as they harshly judge the system for making a mistake. However, keep in mind that the stimulus program was implemented very quickly. Everyone who filed a tax return in 2018 or 2019 and had their banking information on file with the IRS were the first ones to receive the stimulus payment.”

“Also,” Collier emphasizes, “keep in mind that while the entire world is reeling from the multitude of deaths caused by COVID19, on any given day in the U.S. nearly 8,000 people die of various causes. Since the 2018 tax season, many hundreds of thousands of people have taken their leave of this earth. So, if your deceased loved one still has an active bank account and received a stimulus deposit or got a stimulus check in the mail, please do the right thing. Return to sender.”
