Milwaukee Area Dentist Tony Cigno Releases New Article with Tips for Protecting Teeth During the Holidays

Milwaukee area dentist Dr. Tony Cigno discusses some holiday dental risks and how to protect teeth and gums from these potential hazards.

Greenfield, WI — December 8, 2017 — Wisconsin Dentist Tony Cigno recently published an article titled, “Protecting Your Teeth from Holiday Risks.”

Dr. Tony CignoThe holidays, explains Dr. Tony Cigno, are a time many – including the team at Cigno Family Dental – look forward to with joy. One key, he adds, to ensuring that joyful time spent with family and friends isn’t cut short by a dental emergency, is to know what to watch for in terms of dental safety over the holidays in the first place.

As Dr. Cigno says, “While we don’t want to be spoilsports for sure, it is wise to keep in mind just a few dental cautions and suggestions to make sure the holidays stay as pleasant as possible. And of course, to help make sure you don’t end up requiring an emergency trip to your Greenfield or Milwaukee dentist (or emergency dental treatment of any kind).”

To help protect yourself, Dr. Cigno then gives five specific holiday-specific dental risks to keep on your radar (and avoid).

One specific example of a holiday tooth risk is nuts. While this may seem kind of silly, nuts can be potentially hazardous to teeth for a few different reasons. Since most nuts are hard, chomping on a nut too hard or vigorously, can chip a tooth for sure. Furthermore, many people use their teeth to “crack” nuts and this can be costly in terms of either chipping – or even breaking – a tooth or teeth.

This is akin to another of Dr. Cigno’s cautions to not use teeth as a “tool.” In other words, don’t use your teeth to tear or rip anything but especially, things like plastic packaging. Furthermore, don’t ever use the teeth to pry anything open—especially bottles!
