Personal Injury attorney, Jeffrey T. Jones, Offers Guidance for Parents to Help Protect Their New Teen Drivers.

Charleston, WV, August 10, 2015: Personal Injury attorney, Jeffrey T. Jones, founder of the Law Offices of Jeffrey T. Jones, and best-selling author of “Protect and Defend” has posted a new blog on his website, entitled “Alert, New School Year Brings A New Batch of Inexperienced Teen Drivers.” Most kids are wrapped up in their own excitement or gloom as they head back to school. However, if they are a teen driving to school for the first time, their excitement level is super-charged and their sense of safety can easily be forgotten as Mr. Jones reminds readers in his newest blog.

Jeffrey Jones Jones writes, “With the start of a new school year upon us, there are always new teenagers who will be driving to school for the first time. Historically, this is the time of year that teen crashes spike with most crashes occurring during the hours when kids are going to and coming home from school. And, according to the National Safety Council a full “50% of all teens will be involved in a car crash before graduating from high school.“

Jones elaborates, states, “This means that in addition to urging teen drivers to drive extra carefully, younger children who walk and ride their bikes to school on the same roadways need to be taught to take extra precautions as well.” He continues adding, “Because there are no state laws stringent enough to protect the new young drivers, The National Safety Council advises that parents implement household rules regarding driving. They suggest drawing up a written contract which the teenager agrees to and signs in which you set clear expectations and restrictions.”

Jones provides a link to the contract called The “New Driver Deal”, saying that it, “helps parents fill whatever gaps may exist in state laws.”

As Jones states, “A signed contract will help establish the importance of the safety of passengers and pedestrians as a priority.” He adds, “And, hopefully your teen will be among the 50% who will not be involved in a car crash before graduating from high school!”
