Tax Resolution Attorney John P. Willis Reports A Tax Issue That Came To Light This Tax Season For Employees Working Remotely And Their Employers.

Tax resolution attorney John Willis, CEO and founder of IRSALLSTAR brings attention to a tax concern that many employees and employers have been overlooking since the beginning of the pandemic when many employees began working remotely.

Fairhope, AL, September 17, 2021: Tax Attorney John Willis, CEO and founder of IRSALLSTAR.com, recently published a blog on his website entitled “Remote Tax Worries Compliments Of COVID-19,” in which Mr. Willis reveals a new crop of compliance and multi-state tax issues.

John P Willis“As we all know,” Willis writes, “back in early 2020 the pandemic caused businesses around the world to shut down completely for a while. Then,” he continues, “some businesses realized they could continue on quite well with their employees working remotely, from home or wherever they happened to be outside of the confines on the office. It didn’t take long for many business owners to realize that, with the help of Zoom and other digital formats, they could get along nicely with the remote working situation.” He emphasizes, ”Some businesses even came to the decision that they no longer needed a brick-and-mortar place for employees to gather under one roof to work.”

As Willis points out, “For many employers and employees, this was good news. Employees saved money on transportation to and from the office. They saved money on wardrobe, they just had to look good from the waist up! And employers saved big on rent, office supplies, and a long list of other items.” He goes on to add, “But, and this is an important “BUT” this tax season, another issue came to light.” He explains, “Some employees moved to other states and continued to do their work for their employer in the state from which they moved. In fact, this happened on such a wide scale that dual filing requirements and/or dual state filings as residents have kicked in.”
