The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm Founder, Victoria L Collier, Discusses One Of The Lesser Known Veteran Benefits.

Estate & Asset Protection Attorney, Victoria Collier writes about a VA Benefit that must be applied for and one that few veterans do apply for because they think they have to retire from the military in order to qualify..

DECATUR, GA, February 22, 2020: Victoria L. Collier, founder of The Estate & Asset Protection Law Firm, has posted a new blog on her law firm’s website entitled “The Pension Benefit For Wartime Veterans, in which Ms. Collier encourages those who meet the requirements to apply.

Victoria CollierCollier states, “If you or your spouse were veterans who served during any wartime period – prior to 1980 for even one day, and after 1980 if you served for at least two years – you may be eligible to apply The Pension.” She continues, “The Pension provides tax-free income to wartime veterans, whether you were in combat or not, that can be used to offset medical costs.”

According to Collier, “One reason many veterans do not apply for this benefit is that, because of the name, they mistakenly think that one must retire from the military in order to qualify. That is not the case. The Pension is a benefit that is available to any wartime veteran meeting the length of service requirement.” She adds, “It is specifically meant for use if and when the veteran needs home health care, assisted living or nursing home care.”

“While there is no statute of limitation,” Collier explains, “The Pension is one of the lesser known of the VA benefits. It does have income and asset requirements that must be met in order to qualify. And the veteran must actually apply for the benefit. It is not automatic.”
